The hood shock my 08 RXT has come off the retaining clip. No big deal but MAN those struts are hard to compress! I cant budge it. Any thoughts on reattaching it?

I would bring it in and have it fixed under warranty! Not exactly sure how it would come off without something breaking....I have never really paid attention to what they look like, so I can't really give you any suggestions. All I know is that it should be covered under warranty, so I would leave it alone and have a dealer fix it.

Nothing is broken, the just "snap" into place, and are held by tension, not clips. I guess I will take it to the dealer. Gotta be a 5 minue fix. I was riding in some heavy surf over the weekend, must have popped it during a hard landing. Thanks for the replys.

The shoke hook to little ball kinda thing right? if so it should just push back on. but id still take it to the dealer and get a new one. suvs use the same shocks on the tail gates so if for some reason they wont cover it you should be able to find one at auto zone or napa

You are correct.. The shock just snaps back onto the rod. However, once the pressure of the hood was off the shock, it extended all the way out. Now in order for the hole on the shock arm to line up with the pin on the bracket, the shock must be compressed because it is too long.. If I could compress the shock, they would line up perfectly, and snap rite back into place. Just cant compress the shock.. Must be made of kryptonite!! No damage to the shock itself, or to the bracket, it just popped off.

If the shock extended all the way out it is broken and this is the reason you can't get it to budge....they are not supposed to come apart into two pieces. You need a new shock!

kinda sounds like the shock is the wrong one for your ski or broken like DCKD siad. with it fully extended you should be able to put it on, other wise if you compressed it and got it on witch would be VERY hard to do. it would create to much pressure on the hood and the hing and could end up breaking somthing. take it to the dealer and get them to check it out, just make sure they dont try and charge you for it...

Seadoo Rxt shock

I own a 2008 Rxt and my shock did the same thing. I read on a different forum to replace with a turbo shock from napa. Lift the hood and have a friend hold it and take off the bolts where the hood attaches to the seadoo. Then your friend can push forward on the hood just enough to snap the uncompressed shock on the ball mounts. Then pull down on the hood just enough to fasten bolts back onto seadoo. Since Ive done this my shock has never come off again.

KENTWAL: Thanks for the advice. I just read a similar post on another site. I will definitely be trying this...

Just wondering why you wouldn't just get it fixed under warranty?? Wait until it is out of warranty before you try alternate fixes....might as well save the money.

Well took it to dealer... By the time I was finished filling out the paperwork in the office, one of the techs had it fixed!!!!:hurray: Nothing was broken, no warranty work. Just the clips sometimes pop off during hard jolts, like heavy surf... The tech just used a 2ft pry bar, and gently torqued it into place and snapped it in. He said it happens all the time.... 30 second fix.. It took him longer to remove the storage bin than it did to reaffix the shock.... Thanks for all the posts and thoughts... I really appreciate it..
