In the OPs pics there is only one number 5 washer. In the parts illustration the left #5 washer between the gear and the collar on the shaft is missing and that is why the gear is loose.

These are pics of an old SC shaft I have this one is also missing a washer the opposite one from the OP.

There should be 5 spring washers...then the lock nut...then a clutch washer...then the gear (w/ 40 needle bearings in it)..then another clutch washer.

I can't tell from the single pic shown 3 times?

Anyone else see damage to gear teeth?

Once I blew the pic up a bit I could see the damage to the gear.

The SC should get a full rebuild so it would get a new gear in the rebuild kit.

The big question now is where are the missing washer pieces ? The gear may have been damaged by a piece of the ceramic washer.

You catch the part where he said his wheel was able to move a bit in and out?

Wonder if he's got a pic from the sc-tb hose?.....rule out touchdown.

Damn, so it looks like I didn't get lucky with these washers. The gear does have a lot of play on the shaft.
When I get home I'm going to take the oil filter out, see if anythings caught in there.

The movement on the wheel moving it in and out is very very minimal and I believe there's nothing wrong there. Looking at one of the first posts on the forum, it was doing the same and this was after it was in for a pre purchase inspection and no problems were found.

I can take more detailed photos of the gear when I get home and i will clear all the oil off it as the pictures make it look worse than it is. The gear doesn't look like it has any wear on it (there is a slight marking on it though which I'll try get into the picture). In any case I think there's no other option but to rip apart the motor and check/clear the oil pumps?

Rip it apart and clean the oil pumps thoroughly and do an oil change. Use the upgraded rebuild kit that seadoo sells. Also check the compressor wheel for any damage from hitting the housing due to that "minimal" play in the shaft. If you can post a picture of it and also take a picture of the inside of the tube going from the SC to the TBody. Curious to see if there's any debris in there from the compressor wheel rubbing.

Havent had much time to look at the ski lately, I did take out the oil filter to see if there was anything in there and it was very clean.
Nothing in there. Ill keep everyone updated with whats happening and if i'm going to look inside the motor or just get seadoo to clean it out. What an annoying problem that could have been avoided

Anointing problem? You got that right. When I bought my 08 the dealer assured me it had the metal washers in it, even though some of the 08s slipped out with ceramics. He swore up and down that it wasn't true and they were metal. I took his word, and never checked. About a month and 27 hrs into it, the "metal" washers turned out to be ceramic when they came apart and caused me to lose oil pressure and toast the motor on ride back to shore after I noticed something just went wrong. So yes very annoying and avoidable, had I done my homework a little better.

Future reference,,, when a salesman tells you something like that, get it in writing as it may be the leverage you need to get them to service the issue.. I have heard of a few 09's that snuck out with ceramic washers but it is rare.

If it didn't come with a warranty I would have but since it was brand new with warranty I didn't bother. Had it not, you beat believe I'm getting it in writing with a managers signature on it.
