RXP - Melted Spark Plug

I have a 2004 seadoo rxp and the motor shut off on me the other day after running it open throttle and decelerating. The motor wouldn't start and seemed like a dead battery so I replaced the battery and had a similar problem. The Jet Ski now tried to start but wouldn't turn over. I pulled the spark plugs to find one either melted or smashed, I'd like to just replace the spark plug but am worried why it happened and if the cylinder needs to be vacuumed/flushed. The spark plug looks like it is just smashed/melted so I don't know if there is any residue in the cylinder. I then noticed that one of the drain plugs for the hull was loose and let some water in. Could this have shorted the electronics and caused the spark plug to melt because of the shorting?

cooling or lubrication failure caused your problem and is very serious and needs fixed before it implodeds (it it isn't locked up already). Bill

Pull the plugs and do a compression. Sounds catostrophic though. You may have broken a rod and piston came up and smashed the plug.

I'm guessing you dropped an exhaust valve.

If you have a plug that is destroyed... you need to take the engine apart.

Thanks for all of the posts. If you have any more thoughts or similar issues please let me know.

I am planning to take part of the motor apart to see the pistons/valves and determine what damage was done. Looks like www.shopsbt.com is one of the best sites to get parts for a good price.

What did you find wrong with your ski ??? I am haveing simular problems. I have a 2004 Sea Doo RXP that I took out for the first time this year about 1 week ago. Once I got the craft on the water it started to run a little sluggish and than not enough power to run. I towed the craft back and changed out the plugs once I returned home and noticed that the 3rd cylinder the one closest to the rear of the craft had excessive carbon build up. Now that the plugs have been changed out the ski appeared to be running fine. I took it out this week end and all ran well for about 20 min or so until the ski just quit and would not crank back over. I pulled the spark plugs once more and the fist two looked fine but that 3rd plug was difficult to remove and once removed I noticed that it completely melted the end off that goes into the motor.

I just got off of the phone with a PWC tech that I know and I did not even finish my story when he told me that this is a know problem for supercharged Sea doo’s between 2003 – 2007. He told me that rust builds up on the exhaust valve and burns extremely hot killing the engine. I was told that he has not seen one that did not need to be totally rebuilt, and expect a bill some were between 4,000.00 to 4,500.00. He went on to tell me that this is a well know SeaDoo problem, and there was also a supercharger problem that needed to be fixed as well. Does this sound correct?? Any advice??
