Hey guys well I fixed the steering previous owner obviously didn't know how to tighten up the nut on the eyelet.

But went to test it tiday and she flashed red light and says Maintenance. Now she won't rev over 4k ish either.
Is there any quick platoon or do I need to get a diagnostics plugin or something? Bring girl injected I'm a little worried.

Crank it on the trailer and rev it up with a volt meter attached to the battery. If you are not getting at least 13.5 VDC the rectifier is bad and will need to be changed.

So what should I do. How can it be overcharged.

Two ways a battery can get overcharged are 1) Manual battery boost charger is set too high or, 2) Voltage regulator isn't regulating voltage.

If the battery sets untouched for 24 hours the voltage should settle to ~12.5 volts

Sounds like your ski's voltage regulator is not regulating, unless maybe you recently charged the battery using a battery boost charger(easy to overcharge) But b/c the voltage increases from 16.2 to 16.7 while running, must be defective regulator.

Should've told you rectifiers work both. They are suppose to regulate overcharging, as well as under/no charging.
Replace the rectifier and you should be good to go. I recommend an aftermarket heavier duty rectifier. I think OSD parts sell them.

It should be located on the side of the ECM. It is a quick unplug - plugin 5min fix.

Thanx guys I haven't charged it ever hence why I'm shocked. I'll check voltage this morning again with a second meter to clarify.

ok unplugged the rectifier on the back of the ecm and still get maint warning and limited rpm
so how can I be sure its that and not something else guys? nz don't have spares so its not a quick thing for me, ex usa only

The ecu needs about 15sec to check things and update... But the big question is is the voltage still high on the battery.

It's always. Key on and it flashed already.

This narrow the issue down to fewer possibilities. Is the cap installed on the diagnostic connector of the wiring harness? If the cap is off, a fault will occur. Are all of the sensors electrical connectors installed, including the RAVE air solenoid connector?

Remember, some faults cannot clear unless you remove the lanyard key. If removing the key and replacing it clears the fault, this will narrow the possibilities further.

Iv removed and reinstalled the key numerous times.
So must I look for unplugged plugs? Theyr all connected correctly.

Also what do you mean is the cps installed on the diag connector? Picture please

Sorry, my mistake. It's not because the diagnostic connector cap for B.U.D.S./VCK is removed in your case, b/c this fault (P1601) doesn't limit RPM, this fault only just generates buzzer code 6 (no buzzer) + "MAINT" + RED LED This fault is reported anytime, engine running or not running (your fault appears before startup, narrowing possibilities like "running only" fault)

I think you need to perform the service manual procedure for engine off related sensor voltage and resistance checks if BUDS/VCK is unavailable. Assuming battery voltage is normal, one of your sensors or i/o devices is most likely defective or disconnected.

Replace the post. Unfortunately its different than all the rest.

It can also be power or ground not getting to the mpem.

But would that still allow ski yo start? It's weird as it was running fine during warm up in mouth then went to go and just wouldn't accl

I'm glad you're doing the troubleshooting this way, this is great! I haven't seen or used this B.U.D.S. system, so it's a learning experience for me too. Please continue sharing your observations.....

Edit - I think maybe you can connect the BUDS using the VCK connection?

Sounds to me like whoever was using the buds was trying to communicate with the ski thru the DESS post. He couldnt do it so he said you have a DESS post problem. You should communicate with this ski thru the communication port that Sportster has pointed out......NOT THE DESS POST.
