Ride plates
If the corrosion was due to saltwater usage,it is very very hard to keep paint on them in the future. This is mainly due to the casting being porous and salts etc. soak into the casting.A pretty good treatment for this is HydraFLOURIC,not hydrachloric acid.It is used solely for cleaning alloy materials. Some alloy mag wheel cleaners have it in them.Have a look at the label.Usually on the front near the bottom of the label.
Powder coating facilities use it and have large immersion tanks.
Also.Soak the part in water overnight and then put it in an oven at about 180 c. for 15-20 mins. This gets out a lot of contaminates and will not degrade the quality of the casting in any way.(300 c. plus will). You may notice more oxidisation coming out after you do this.Repeat the process.
Hope this helps.
