I am having problems with my 1992 Seadoo XP. I am constantly increasing the throttle and it skips from 3k RPM to 6k RPM? I don't know what is going on. I changed the stator, regulator/rectifier, and battery. I also checked the speed limiter and the fuel system. Here is a video of what is going on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVYhpRMFuus&feature=youtu.be

Anyone seen this before? I am thinking that it might be the ignition module, but I am looking for advice

Hi, and welcome to the SeaDoo forum.

It's really hard to say what's causing this, but it's also hard to diagnose a problem running on the trailer. Does your ski also do this when running in the water?

I am thinking that you just have a gauge problem, the engine sure doesn't sound like it is revving up to 6k that quickly, it just looks like the gauge is skipping a portion of the rev range.

Perhaps someone with experience on these older craft will step in and let us know what they think.

Welcome to SDF!

Its most likely the gauge or the resistor harness. Inside the ebox its just hooked up to a resistor-Ysplit thats hooked to the yellow/blk wire.

Its def not affecting anything...I'd say maybe replace that harness and if it doesnt fix it just leave it. Actually...lol I just might have that type of early gauge.

You can order a replacement harness from me. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks for all the help. I haven't put the Seadoo in the water yet to test it. Would you recommend this to see if it act differently under load?

If the problem is with the gauge, my only questions is does the gauge affect the redline or is it just a reader? It was my understanding that speed engine limiter is what protected the engine from over revving. My confusion is that is the engine isnt actually revving up 6k like you were saying, why would it bounce off the limiter?

Also, what is the resistor harness? What part are you referring too? Part number?

You think that I can ride it how it is? It just bounces off the limiter, so i dont think that is good.

yup its just the gauge man...the rev limiter will do its thing regardless.

The resistor harness is in the ebox. Just look for the yellow/blk wire and you will see it split off with a piece of shrink wrap on one of the pigtails.
