Rotary Valve Install

Good day Gents! Finally working toward installing my 787 RFI rebuild from Fullbore into my hurricane sandy ski (2000 GSX RFI)! With kids and college, etc it's just been hard to get back to. Anyway, I've just set the timing for the rotary valve and now want to re-install the valve and cover. Here's my question: the parts diagrams shows that the valve should be coated with Molykote 111 (I use SuperLube, same compound and performance, with slight difference in USDA food grade properties for anyone who cares), however, the shop manual I have says to use Bombardier Injection Oil. Unless I'm mistaken, these are two vastly different compounds right? Which do I use?

Thanks!

The rotary valve only needs a light coat of 2 stroke oil for the initial start. Don't bother with thick grease.

Hey CRJ

When did you send your's in for a rebuild? I sent a customers in in April. The customer just called and they said they were shooting for July 29th to wrap it up. He actually paid for it to get on the "booking list" for a end of May shipment. Just curious, not looking for others to chime in and rant on your thread here.

You can't go by mine, ultimately they had mine for over a year, and not their fault at all. It was a complicated rebuild that required me sourcing additional replacement parts that they could use. Apparently an engine at the bottom of the bay for a week or two is super bad news lol! In any case, after they got my engine and came back to me with a parts list, I told them to put it on the back burner as I was not prepared time or money-wise to finish it. What I got back looks gorgeous and I am just starting to get it installed.

FWIW, after several conversations with Dan, it is clear that the fastest way to get an engine back from them 'on schedule' is to send it in the fall, like Oct/Nov, anything 'in-season' could be a roll of the dice. And I got the feeling that they take their time and do these things right the first time. I got their Platinum HD rebuild with the Wossner forged pistons, etc. which at the time was advertised as a long-block special with a 3 year warranty, I think their standard is 2 yrs.

I will probably have my GTX 787 RFI rebuilt after this season and will not hesitate to send it to Dan. But I will do it in the fall to make sure I get it back timely. That is when they also post any specials and you'll get their best prices. I guess that thinking might be different in the south where it's always 'in season' lol.
