rotary valve cover gasket removal

:thumbsup: Possible oil leak at bottom of rotary valve cover ,bottom left of carbs toward rear.
Question is how can I remove cover but not disturb rotary valve itself?
Also is their any other gasket or o-ring in this area that may be bad and need replacement? Almost sure it is not an oil line. Any and all help appreciated and any pictures would be helpful. Thanks , Ron

I just Had mine off last week. My RV cover took alittle force to get it off and the valve stayed on no problem. To be safe I would say remove the intake manifold and youll be able to see the Rotary valve through the port of the the cover and you should be able to stick your finger in there and apply pressure to hold it against the motor while pulling the cover off the motor.

Oh and one last thing be careful taking the RV cover bolts out. I had one snap on me and it was a pain to get out and when I did finally get it out, it took most of the threads with it. Best way to do it is spray them with rust penetrant, let um sit a bit and then work the bolts slowly back and fourth till you can spin um out comfortably.

I actually was removing the intake manifold to remove the oil pump and one of the manifold bolts stripped out so I decided to remove the RV cover to get it apart. Sorry I missed the part about asking about the oil leak problem. I don't know that you would get much oil leaking actually from the RV cover gasket but rather there is an oil seal on the RV shaft. That maybe leaking oil into the RV chamber and then leaking past the RV cover gasket. I would start by pulling the RV cover and inspecting everything there, such as your oil pump and feed lines and injector lines. Once in there you can carefully slide the rotary valve on the shaft out a little to look at the seal behind it.
If you want to remove the valve, I think you can mark the valve and mark the shaft so that you can put it back in the same place.

Would their not be enough oil in this area to develope a slow leak if gasket were to be bad. Does not seem to leak at all until it sits.

well the rv cover gasket mainly seals air so theres not a vaccum leak past the carbs in the intake trac. If theres oil leaking when it sits, my guess it would be the oil seal on the rv shaft. most likely it doesnt leak while running since rv shaft is spinning and the seal stays warm causing it to seal and when its cold the seal contracts allowing oil to slip past the lip of the seal. You were planning on removing the rv cover anyway so i would remove that and replace that o ring and then youll be able to inspect everything and see if any other seal or gasket is leaking. good luck
