There is some truth to that statement but in this case, when the year is one right after the other, it is usually because it was the beginning and end to a specific design. Since you say there is a different part number, my gut feeling on this is that no, it will not work.
Just like in automobiles, they make a design change in say, 2002. The alternator may be the same alternator used all the way into 2006, even in different engine sizes, but in 2007, the brackets or something else caused a design change, even with one from 2006 that had a motor running that same alternator, it will no longer fit on the same motor of 2006, designed for 2007.:cheers:
