Anyone have any good leads on a new reverse cable on a 1997 challenger 1800? Mine is either seized or broken and my gates don't move.
thanks
Mike

Update: I pulled the controls out and found the end of the cable is broken off from the control arm. It looks to me like the guy who owned this boat before tried to rig something up with a couple bolts and some black electrical tape which obviously didn't work. I'm certain there is some peices missing. I attached a couple pics. I moved the gates from the back of the boat by hand and the cable moves so the cable isn't seized. Any ideas?control 1.jpg

It looks like you need a new cable, and it's not a cheap thing to buy. Try brazing it with torches if you have skills in that area. If not you'll have to get a replacment.

what's the piece missing off the end of the cable look like? Is it supposed to be a ball end? Shouldn't there be a piece that holds the cable at the collar to keep it from moving so only the inner cable moves and not the whole thing. None of that is there.
thanks

Mike, the Shop Manual should have a clear picture of the end of the cable. You could check the parts list in the "Parts" link too for a better look and compare to what you have.

i just took mine apart yesterday, and for that their are 1-2 arms coming off of that part, you cant actually see the cable itself. if u have 2 engines, there are 2 of the arms. mine took me 2 and half hours to get adjusted, im pulling it off tomorrow i can take a good picture for you if youd like to see what it looks like from a speedster

Replace Rod

I have a Challenger 97 and the ROD broke...is there a way to buy or fix the one rod instead of replacing the entire Flux Assembly?

Thanks,
Todd
