Reverse cable nut threads

Hi, first post. Have an 2006 RXP that the nut for the reverse came out and appears the threads are stripped. Is there a way to repair them or does the pump support plate need to be replaced?

TIA

The nut and the ride plate are both plastic. The ride plate is pretty tough, you would have to really work hard to strip the threads in it. The plastic nut is usually the culprit and I have replaced both of mine on my 2004 and 2008 over the years. I actually carry an extra one as I have lost them on the water before. I would start by pulling the pump and taking a closer look at the ride plate to check the threads and see if any parts of the original nut are in there. Pulling the pump gives you space to work and helps with the installation of the new nut anyway. I usually have to pull out broken pieces before installing the new ones as well.

Thanks, there's nothing in the hole all the old pieces were removed. I ended up getting a SEA DOO STEERING/REVERSE CABLE NUT THREAD TAP-THREAD CLEANER and that cleaned up enough to get the nut to go in further. That and some sealer and it's good to go now.
