Restoration 95 SPX

I know this isnt much of a desired motor to have but its a x4 hull and i have two 720 xp's anyways. Found this on craigslist and picked it up for 60 bucks

For $60 you can not go wrong. Even if you can not fix it you can make some money on the parts. I have never had to replace the through hull fitting before. Is the fiberglass around the old one real thin? It is hard to tell in the picture. It looks like someone already started to repair it. It looks like the side was completely ripped out

Im pretty sure that it is. I wrote down the wrong year in the title it is actually a 95 spx. I have 2 95 xp's and they have the same body. And the fiberglass is super thick I cut off the bad glass and did 7 layers of new. Ill post pics tonight. Here is my xp I finished last year got it for staining a deck

That turned out nice, you gotta have a few hour into that.

Dont sell yourself short on the 717, it is one of, if not, the most reliable seadoo engine made.

As far as the whole x4 debate, some say its not an x4 unless it has the 787, but the jury is still out on that. I have never found a clear explanation on this, all I know is the X4 guys are junkies when it comes to skis. Be careful, dont get addicted:cheers:

Good luck with your project, keep us posted.

Ooops, I thought it was the XP, ok, I take that back.
717 still rules.

I believe the consensus from many of the debates is an X4 "hull" has removable/replaceable trim tabs.
The arguement about what motor is inside the hull defining the hull type seems confusing to me???

X4 or not your ski looks sharp! Nice job!

The silver and dark silver ski is a 95 xp with a 717. That is a totally different ski then the white spx at the top

Yep, I bet your 95 spx has the same hull/engine as my as my 94 xp. To me the hull shape I looks very similar to the 95/96 etc X4 hulls but it doesn't have the trim tabs. The other difference is the VTS motor is in the front instead of the back like your 95 xp(s)?
The engine is a 657x which actually is rated same hp as the 717.
Anyway still a fun ski, my son actually prefers the non trim tab hull, he is able to do some tricks easier with it...

Yes your correct I did notice that the trim tabs are not removeable. Looks like you have a nice collection of skis

Thanks, most had issues when I acquired them but thanks to the wealth of info on the forums I have had good luck bringing them back to working order.

That ski came out great. How did you paint it with cans or spray gun? What kind to paint did you use. I'm having someone give me a quote on having my 96 SPX hood painted in 3 different colors, and depending on how much he'll charge me, I may end up doing it myself. Any idea for what a reasonable price in Florida?

I painted it with a gun myself so i have no idea what it would cost. I had paint laying around from painting my car. Here is my daily driver and what i tow my ski with

That looks real nice. Well done. Are you doing any decals or stencils?
