Resonators?

So I have a 97 speedster all original for the most part in the engine area.

Heard someone was deleting their Resonators on their boat, same as I have.

Question, what is a Resonator? What does it do? What's the benefits of eliminating it, compared to keeping them?

As far as I know you do not have resonators. You have a muffler/water box. If fills with water to quiet the exhaust.

There is no performance benefit to removing them and it will be so loud and annoying you and everyone else on the lake will be pissed.
