Hi all. I'm pretty much a noob but I recently 'inherited' a 1996 GSX that has spent 3 years (unwinterized) outside. Heaven knows what I'm in for. But the first of many challenges I face is getting a key for it as the original was destroyed by a dog. I checked eBay and didn't see any. Are the keys coded so that they will only work with a certain ignition? How can I get a replacement? Many thanks for your help.

Welcome to the seadoo forum dskowron. I believe that the 1996 GSX uses the DESS system (Digital Encoded Security System) If that is the case it needs to go to a dealer to have it programed. I should say DESS by the key lanyard if it is. The dealer could charge like $50. -$75.00 to have this done if memory serves me correct from other members having this done. If it dosen't have DESS than it uses a basic lanyard cap, that dosen't need to be programed. They can be purchased on e-bay and just pluged in and go.

Dess....

You have the DESS and Karl is correct. It'll cost about $75 bucks......but when you go to get them and have them programmed, get more than one. You need at least one spare.
