I just replaced my wear ring in my 1995 xp 720. I put it in the freezer and it slipped right in. Put my propeller in and it was a tight fit. My question is the propeller suppose to spin freely in in the pump after replacing my wear ring or is it suppose to be a tight fit but still spin. Cause right now it spins but takes some elbow grease to make it move.

Check to see if the thrust washer on the cone side of the pump got pinched when you placed the impeller on the shaft, I have had this happen and it seemed tight in the wear ring. took apart and kept everything in place and all was good.

ok so i took it back apart and everything looked fine. Put it back together and was still tight. So i figured i would try to put it back together and tried starting it and its so tight wouldn't allow the engine to turn over. Any more suggestions? I was thinking bout sanding out the wear ring just enough for the prop to spin freely.

I have the same problem with my xp 800 right now. Everything is put together correctly, but it seems that the impeller is rubbing against the wear ring in one spot, making it difficult to turn. I'm still waiting for an answer. I'm gonna try to fire it up tomorrow and see if it will wear in. Good luck.

I just put some 150 grit sand paper on a 1 in pvc pipe and used double edge tape to keep it on the pipe. I put the pump in a vise and just went to sanding as evenly as i could. Took a couple of time of putting prop back in and taking out and more sanding but i finally got it to where it spins freely. Put the pump back inthe ski and runs good on water hose now just gotta take it to the lake and put to a real test. Good luck with yours Jay138
