I bought a 2001 Seadoo Sportster LE after checking the compression and reading 150. Took it out on the water and it fired it up right away and she ran really well for about 1/2 hour. Increased the throttle and hit some small waves, it immediately slowed down to a stall. Tried to start it and it would turn over, I would get it going and then die again. Finally got it up to idle speed and got it back to the launch. Out of the water I turned it on, fired up and no problem. I have been tinkering around with it in and out of the water and it seems as soon as it is in the water and it takes on the load of the water, it dies. I remember having the same problem with my 96 xp and through some research, read that it is was rectifier issue. Bought a rectifier installed it and ran like a champ! Never had the problem again

So I thought that I should try to replace the rectifier in my 2001 Speedster LE. I need help as to the location to replace it. I bought a new aftermarket Rectifier and I can't find anything online to help.

Please help

Your regulator can be bad... but unfortunately, I think your regulator is part of your MPEM.

So... let's test it first.

Start the engine, and bring it up to 5000 RPM. Put a meter on the battery, and you should see 13.5 to 14.5v. If you see anything other than that... then yes... the regulator is bad.

If you need to fix it... there are some kits to convert it to an external regulator.

Thanks for the info Tony, much appreciation. So I worked on this a little yesterday. Adjusted the idle screw, high speed and low end speed screws, all according to the shop manual. They were all open to about 3 turns prior. So again out of the water with the hose hooked up, the boat revs and stays reved no problems. I backed the boat down to the water and kept it on the trailer. The battery reads perfectly at 5000 rps in the water. Idles just fine. However, it will stay at 5000 rpms for about 2 seconds and then it starts to drop quickly. If I don't cut back on the throttle, it will bog down and die. This happened over and over... Take it out and no worries with no load. It now truly feels like a fuel problem, like its starving itself of fuel at higher rpms When I bought the boat, the prior owner had paper work showing that the carbs were rebuilt by an authorized seadoo dealer, so I am not entirely sure if the shop rebuilt them properly or not? I would assume that they were...
