can i replace the mechanical pump on a 1989 sp with a 12 volt electric fuel pump? will that work? i was thinking if i plugged the vacuum hose from the motor and run the electric fuel pump off the battery then i wouldnt have to go and buy a mechanical pump as mine just died. i already have an automotive 12 volt electric pump. it this doable? will the charging system handle the draw? this is just a thought so any help would be greatly appreciated.

this all stared yesterday when the ski started bogging down and i could tell it was starving for fuel. so i pulled the carb abd fuel pump and tore them both down and cleaned them. put them back on the ski and cranked it over and didnt see any gas going into the filter. checked the vacuum from the motor and theres sucking coming from the hose. hooked hose back to pump and took hose off filter side of pump and cranked it over and got no sucking from it. im kinda puzzled as to why it wont suck as these pumps are so simple. 4 stupid diaphrams and there all in good shape.

You could... but most of the time... you can just clean the old mechanical pump, and it will work.

yup. i cleaned it and it didnt work at first till i primed it. then was still boggin down . cleaned carb and put it back on but i crossed 2 hoses and didnt notice but then got it figured out. then went out to ride and it kept quitting on me so i looked at the tether and figured out my damn cat chewed the end so it wasnt making a full contact and kept popping up...so i removed it and taped it up for now till i can get a new one. hope i dont fall off.... damn cat, hes lucky hes worth $9.000 or id skin him... JUST KIDDING !!!!
