Hi, we threw a rod the the crank case of the 787. we are gettin a remained motor for it. my question is about the drive tran, wondering how i pull the motor with out messing with the drive shaft much.

if im missing something you need to know just ask. Is there a how to anywere??

thank you for your help

I have heard it can be done, but I doubt it. Not a lot of extra room in that compartment, but if you can slide the engine forward enough to clear the shaft, you may have it made.

It may be just less stress to pull the pump and shaft.

I did this last fall (found a NOS 787, not reman) and went ahead and did a new wear ring and better impeller. So check the wear ring clearances and see if you don't need to swap that out anyways.

well the main reason i dont want to pull it out is that we just had it redone. we got it back from the shop not even 4 days ago.

is there any how to's or maybe just some pics of what i need to do?

if your motor is locked up, the nput a pipe wrench on the pto, and turn counterclockwise, to break it from the crank. This way, when install'n new motor, just "tighten" up the pto then, on new crank...

you gotta tranfer the pto over to new motor, so with old one stuck, i'd use it, to crack the pto off, verses, fighting it, on a bench/ground...

It takes less than 10 minutes to pull the shaft & pump and you will have to align the engine anyways.

timmyboy76,
You are answering a different question. LOL!

I've pulled 3 engines out of my boat in the last year. I've always removed the front motor mount and it slides right out with no issues and slides back in just as easy. Be sure to keep an eye on your bumpers and don't lose or forget to put them back in.
