repair or upgrade?

just found out my mpem is fried on my 97 speedster. dealer tells me $1700 to fix. I am debating what to do. The repair may be 1/2 the value of the boat. Do i try to find an aftermarket mpem & install myself over the winter, or do i sell/part out the boat & upgrade? i like the look of the new 4 stroke 20' speedster, but wonder if it will feel too big & draw too much water in our shallow lake. is the 310 hp or the 430 hp a better choice? more hp always sounds good. is a used 2005 speedster a good choice?

Me personaly would upgrade, but before we tell you what boat would be a good choice... How shallow is your lake?

Most newer Seadoo jetboats have a smiliar 12" draft no?? You still need 2 to 3' to run safely though.

my lake has a lot of 5-10' deep sections & can get pretty weedy. at the end of my lift/dock it's about 3'deep with a fair amount of weeds & lily pads i have used my weed kicker on the 97 speedster quite a bit. how do the new weed kickers work?
