removing impeller without special tools

can it be done by say clamping the drive shaft in a vice, put the impeller on the shaft and use a cresent wrench on the other end????also shoot the heat to the end of the shaft in the impeller? thanks guys

well i was able to remove the wear ring without removing the impeller however, must be over an inch of play end to end with the impeller shaft, is this normal or do i need to take it off and inspect?

if your local in miami I have tool you can borrow.
but yes take off and inspect bearings.

I would definitively not clamp the drive shaft in any fashion at all. The chances for bending something are there, no matter how small. As recommended, I would take the pump by a local dealer if I didn't want to buy the tool. (which is a cheap investment when one thinks about the price of gas/time and greasing mechanics palms) Or, being in FL, you could ask around on the forums and a six pack would probably buy the services of a helpful member, with a tool and torque wrench. :cheers:

thanks for the info, i'm pretty sure the tool could be made out of an old drive shaft, just a spline with a hex cut to the end. I'm new to these jet skis and dont know anybody in my area yet but i do like to party and have fun so if anyone has the special tool for this and likes to get a buzz, pick your poison and lets party!!!......................oh, the parts wont be in till mid to late next week................i'm getting bummed out.................

If your waiting on parts anyway, just buy the tool on ebay. You can find them for around 10 - 15 bucks. But yes, you can make one if you have a spare drive shaft. I have seen people do it just with a pipe wrench on an old drive shaft. However, personally I would just buy the tool because its so cheap.

I work at an automobile dealership, most of the tech's at work have this tool, I think they use it for something on a GM transmission. If you know any auto techs. you might be able to borrow one.
