Reed Issues on XP

I am looking at buying a '99 XP and the owner told me he has replaced the reed twice and just recently took it out and has to get it repaired once more. Is this a common issue for this particular model/year ski? What might cause this to happen which seems like a pretty frequent amount, and is this something I should stay away from?

reeds dont go bad that often, unless you ingest water, and try to start, unless that his problem.
