Recharging my battery at home!

Don't know if anyone notices this on their boats but when I turn on/off the Main Battery cut-off switch I hear small mechanical gears moving somewhere next to the battery...well, my battery died and I installed a battery charger which lets me plug in my extension cord and re-charge the battery at home.

Now I no longer hear this noise and I'm worried about what it is and used to do. If anyone can contact me and let me know what this part is I will greatly appreciate it.

Also, is re-charging my battery this way good or not?

Even when your battery switch is turned off the bilge pump will still run. Do you possible have water sitting in the bottom of oyur engine bay causing the bigle pump to run? I found on our speedster that the bilge would run with even the smallest amount of water, and continue to run even when the bilge appeared clear to the naked eye.

Charging your battery inside the boat is okay, just need to be careful of fuel vapors and such.

Thnx for your reply. No there's no water in the bilge. I dont think this has to do with the pump though. This was some mechanical type sound when the battery switch was turned on/off. I understand the pump sound and that wasnt it. The pump sounds and works fine. This was some type of gear like sound.

This sound came from around the battery compartment.

Recharging the jetski warning is well known to remove one of the cables from the MPEM or damage can occur to this expensive component, the seadoo boat should have the same warning, never a running car, tractor boost or the charger direct to the motor wiring.

I'm sorry. I know what you're trying to tell me but its not clear. What part is expensive? Where then should the ground be if not the battery? and what is MPEM?

The MPEM is like the ECU for your boat. Just make sure you turn your battery switch to off and you'll be just fine.

Since my daily work involves acronyms I'm thinking ECU = Electronic Control Unit?!

Still is this what the strange gear like noise is coming from? Is not doing it anymore so I think I F#cked it up!
