Rebuilt Supercharger and new Wear Ring, Lost 400 RPMs

I just had my supercharger rebuilt and a new wear ring installed by the dealer in Bradenton, Florida. I have a 2006 GTX 185 SC. Since the rebuild, I have only put 3 hours on it.

My question is: before the rebuilding of my SC, my maximum RPMs were 7600 and after the rebuild, my max RPMs are 7200. Naturally I lost ~6MPH. My dealer says that the wear ring needs to be broken in. What do you think?

your dealer is full of shiite

Are you sure you lost 6 mph?
The reason I ask is that, one of the symptoms of a worn wear ring and/or damaged impeller, is a higher than normal RPM and a lower than normal MPH due to cavitation. When replacing a damaged wear ring, the RPM should go down and MPH should go up.

So you dont think a tight wear ring or a tight S/C cant cause a loss in RPM?? Instead of just blasting like that how about some helpful input.

others here would no more about this
Red2Blue would no but it sounds like
your S-charger may be slipping and your not geting
full boost I dont no those machines but if you can find
a port to put a boost gage you will no right a way if thats right.
I no they can be ajusted for slip

Okay mr. moderator....here's some helpful input on the subject. Of course waterblue44 did ask what I thought on the subject...that being his dealer feeding him a blatent lie.

Any how....assuming his dealer even knew how to correctly install a new wear ring...and assuming his dealer felt his oem prop in decent enough shape to leave be. It would take about a .1 of a sec after the motor was cranked over the first time for the prop to carve out any wear ring material that it touched. No?

So... a break in period for a wear ring is a line of BS...plain and simple.

After being told that line of BS...I'd be removing that sc and sending it to someone I trust to check out what that "professional and trust worthy dealer" said he had done.

I like that reply... thanks for the input.

Check your engine oil level also... it should be right smack in the middle of the bend in the dipstick (not the top of the bend!), if they added oil to the crankcase and "filled it up" higher than that it would rob the engine of horsepower and RPM's at WOT.

And find a different mechanic shop, your dealer was obviously clueless telling you that cwap.

The first thing I would do is check that the throttle cable was adjusted properly and not excessive slack in it. They may have messed with it.
P.S. Like red2blue says, a wear ring is broke in the second you start the ski.

Update - I put another 3 hours on my Sea Doo yesterday and my speed and RPMs are back to normal. I think the oil level may have been a little high and suspect that was the problem. Thanks for all your responses, especially Michael 211!

Tight wear ring def will not cause that. Tight Bearing possible in the S/C. If you continue to have a issue please bring it in and I will have the tech pull the S/C apart and inspect it. I know we test the slip on on S/C rebuilds.

I dont know, but i recently bought a 03 gtx supercharged and rebuilt motor and supercharger and im pushing 7800rpms so im not sure what to think about your ski. I never rode a supercharged model and my friend has a non supercharged model and mine isnt any faster on acceleration than his so im trying to figure that out. I a car mechanic for 25 years but these skis some times get to me!
