hey guys starter was bad on 96 xp, had it rebuilt for $100. Put it back in ski hit the start button, turned over once, now it's doing the same thing only clicking at solonoid. Fuses are all good, battery is hot, any ideas????

Be sure the ground wire that goes to the engine is clean and getting a good connection. Try to jump across the solenoid and see if the starter turns over. Use a 14 guage insulated wire to jump across. If it turns over it could be a bad solenoid. So check the ground first, then see if it will turn over with with the jump.
Keep me posted on your progress.

If you have a jumper cable (just one)> You can supplement the ground by attaching one end to the negative post of the battery and the other to the block of the engine. If starter starts working it is exaclty what KustomKarl said!

ok here's the latest, new ground wire, new battery, rebuilt starter, fuses good. Starter's getting power when start switch is pushed. Took starter back off hooked to truck battery turns fine. So I pulled the spark plugs out the motor turns. tried to jump the solenoid, NOTHING!!!!!!! Should I hook kill switch wires together????

Is it not starting or is it doing nothing? You may have to investiagte the starter a little. If you tightened the lead dwon too much you may have pulled the wire from the brush. Take the starter apart and check out the leads. Also if its spinning and not starting check and make sure the casing is on the right way.

It has to be something between the battery and the starter. IF the battery is reading 12 volts that doesnt mean it can supply the proper cranking amps as well. Take the battery to Auto zone and have them load test it, its free. Also the starter solenoid may be the problem.

found the problem, the so called rebuilt starter has bad brushes one is stuck and won't spring out.

Why spend $100.00 to rebuild your starter when you can get a new one with a warranty off ebay for about $75.00?
