Ok jam i have been following you guys on here and so far they are leading you in the riught direction with your description of issues....... To answer your question about the fuel selector valve.... YES its the dial that you turn to go from "on" "OFF" and "reserve" if you turned it to reserve and it started cutting out and running like junk then that means the selector is plugged from the fuel lines you have.... The easiest thing to do is buy a new one but i always just clean mine...... its fairly simple to clean just mark the hoses with a sharpie as you take them off.... if you are going to replace the lines "which you need to do NOW" your best bet is to do it all at the same time. just focus on doing one line at a time and it will do you no good to clean your carbs before you change the fueel lines you need to do it all at once
*change lines
*clean/rebuild carbs
*clean fuel selector
as for the oil question i would not recommend you mixing the oil. and when you go get different oil only use API-TC 2 stroke low ash synthetic oil in your ski. To drain the oil out just unhook one of the large oil lines and get something to catch it with. Then when most of it is ou hook up the line again and remove the oil line under the carbs and let the oil draing out of the engine before topping it off with good oil. While you are in there be sure to

1) Change the filter
2) Replace the 2 small hoses
3) clean the nipples in the manifold, and check the check valves.
4) bleed the system
5) verify the adjustment on the oil pump.
i hope this helps you and if you have any questions just ask

My mechanic told me not to remove the tank or unhook the hoses so the oil pump would not loose it's prime... Wasn't that bad of a taste... Kinda acts like Pepto! HA!:lols:

I replaced all the grey fuel lines and cleaned fuel selector switch. Did not rebuild carbs. Boyfriend went thru them last year and said they looked good. Not saying I wont rebuild them later just not today. One thing at a time to try to elimnate the problem. They did not appear to be all gummed up or corroded, the fuel line or the carbs . Yesterday Before fuel line replacement, after a ride I went to go ride again and the ski wouldnt start. Pulled plugs, checked choke etc. used starting fluid and it finally started. While on the ride (had friend on back) we fell off and when i tried to start it in middle of lake, would not start same thing acted like choke was on. Replace fuel lines this morning. took to lake to test. It ran good. came back to shore friend was going to test it again wouldnt start. because i wore the battery down day before trying to start it and forgot to recharge it, The battery died had to come home. It has always been hard to start for the first start of the day. To minimize the ewear and tear on battery and starter, i spray a little startring fluid and fires rigfht up and usaully no problem for the rest of the day. Any idea on why?

My ski is running much better. Not sure why it would start the other day. took it out today and it ran great. The carb filters might be a little clogged because it bogged down a couple of times, but not horrible. If its not one thing its another. Starter wasnt engaging the other day. Pulled the starter and had a spare (wasnt sure if it was good)put it on and broke down today. It was not good. Ordering one tonight. Thanks again, everybody, all of your input has been very helpful to me.

Always do a carb rebuild when you replace the fuel lines...... just because they look ok dosent mean they are working correctly..... As for your initial start you said you have been spraying starting fluid into the cylinders??? Big NO NO on a two stroke there is no lubricant in starting fliud and it will eventually burn up your top end..... If need be just use a little premix gas instead but im sure if you do a carb rebuild itll be fine.... I had a customer with this same problem two days ago and while replacing the fuel lines i recommended we do a carb rebuild and it runs better than it ever has he said....

Hey Brock, I have a 96GTX and had the carbs vatted and rebuilt. Before that I replaced all the fuel lines, cleaned the RAVE valves, and changed the plugs. This past weekend, I was riding (which was GREAT) and I heard a pop under the seat and the exhaust sound changed. I was VERY close to the pier, so I idled over, removed the seat, and I had blown the PTO RAVE valve out (guess I didn't have it tight). I cleaned it, and replaced it, making sure I tightened it, and cranked it up and took off again... Later in the day, I hit a pretty good size wake and the ski went to about 4500 rpm's and wouldn't go any higher. I took it back to the dock to check it out. Didn't notice anything strange but afterwards, it would not, and still will not crank... Any ideas? I changed the plugs thinking I might have fouled them when the RAVE valve came out, but no joy...

when you say it wont crank do you mean it is turning over but not starting or it wont turn over at all? If it wont turn over at all take the cover off the driveshaft and try to turn it by hand with the plugs out and see if it rolls over to eliminate the possibility of a sieze

It turns over, just no crank... Haven't checked for spark yet... Just bouncing it off you for quick ideas..

Brock, Im not spraying starting fluid in cylinders. I spray into carb air box where the flame arrestor which covers the carbs. Also, my reserve on fuel selector doesn't pick up. when I cleaned it, I could blow thru it all dirrections. Is it possible that I neeed a new switch?

did you replace the lines for the reserve tank .... if you did then possibly a new switch is in oreder for you ... they break down over time and get plugged up and the fuel cant flow as good as it should but you can still blow throiugh it ....
