just curious why it had different valves then my 96 XP,has one or the other probably been changed from stock? just got the GTX, decided to clean them same as i did on the XP.To my surprise they were in Backwards, and looked Diff then the XP's.I hope no internal damage has/could occur with the dealer putting them in backwards. He told me it had been 3 years since motor job was done,so they been that way for 3 years.I assumed the word "Top" on the guillotine valve means plave that side towartds Head, am i correct?Doesn,t really specify in the shop manual.these grooves on the GTX valves were mutilated, so i took a flat file and cleaned them up bewst i could and re-installed with Groovestowards engine, Not Head, never fired it up yet, and Both O-rings were Missing, are they very important? i assume to keep the oil out of the Bellow.

the slotted raves are the newer design, also better material, and yup, ur right..word "top" is installed with that toward head.

thanks for confirmation T-boy, any input as to what may have happened to the grooves on the PTO side Valve being mangled like that?shawn flashlight down the slot, piston looks good what i can see of the top of it.Maybe nothing to be concerned about...so they were probably replaced at one time then since both are 96 machines..

3rd pic.

damn...rule out, something got lodged in there, since it only takes a little bity of carbon, to stick these valves. Pull carbs off, go thru them..could've gotten leaned or the previous owner, smashed it w/ something, not pay'n attention..etc. As long as ity aint get'n/causing a hang up, i'd leave it, or take dremmel to it.

Yupp, no idea, he has had it since 5 hours on it,bought from neighbour, it had a factory recall for something but owner didn,t take it to Seadoo dealer,1 year later second owner i bought from spent $1100 on new motor job, said never put a penny in it since then, total 134 hours on it now,so i'm assuming Dealer was one who put the valves in Backwards since thats only time motors been apart, and possibly why the smashed up valve. A flat File fit the groove perfectly and i was able to clean up the grooves as good as new, but have yet to put boat in the water for a test drive since its down to 30 F here now most evenings. Thanks again for the fast response timmyboy, they appear to move up and down with ease, i'll leave them and give a try....
