Quick Start-up without water OK or not?

Just wondering if it's beneficial to give the ski a quick start-up over the winter months just to keep a bit of oil splashing around? When I say quick I mean just about 10 seconds or so. No water, don't rev, just idle for around 10 secs then stop.
Where the ski is stored I don't (and can't get) a hose to run it for any time.
I don't really want to do the whole "winterising" thing as it will only be out of the water for 6-8 weeks between use.

I should add my ski is a 2012 gti 130

You can run the ski without the hose with no issues. Even with the hose, the max run time is 1 minute.

Starting it through winter won't hurt anything unless it was winterized. You would blow the antifreeze out and actually lose protection. Starting it for a second is not needed. Probably better off not starting it as the battery would needed hooked up and the fact if blowing out the winterization fluids.

If you're not going to winterize it properly, then make sure you change the oil before putting it away and fog the cylinders. It's the least you should do.

Joe, the warning in my manual says not to run the engine (during flushing) for longer than 5 minutes since the drive line seal is not getting any cooling (out of the water). I have an older ski. Has that time limit changed over the years?

No. We have seen damage happen sooner. And with a 4-tec, you don't cool the engine as the coolant is not being cooled by the ride plate. When you flush the engine the water only goes through the exhaust and pump area.

So has BRP updated the owner's manuals for newer skis to reduce the flush time limit? I understand how the 4-tec cooling system works, but even out of the water I can't see the engine temp rising that fast. Now you've got me curious. I'm going to hook up my CanDoo and see what the engine temp does at 1 minute intervals.

I wouldn't fuss too much about the engine temperature. Coastiejoe is right. Keep the run time out of water down to a minimum. Once I hit the 2 minute mark, the engine is OFF. I'm most worried about: 1) the carbon ring; 2) engine temp. Maybe it can go to 5 minutes, but why take a chance with your baby?

I think the engine would be ok as well. The carbon seal is going to be smoking hot.
