Ok, im patiently (impatiently) waiting for my part to arrive, (the reverse bucket lever)...

Do I need it?, I could just go forward and neutral right?.. just being impatient wanted to take my boat out today, I finally washed it and removed some faded decals, it looks a lot better, pictures coming up..

Now I want to know if I can throw a radio in there.... lol... and how to go about it... Im still going to reupholster the seats and so forth..

Has anyone installed a radio in one of these things, and to let you know, now im deep into this boat, which means, Im propably going to shell out a grand for a new engine if I needed.. so I bought it for $1,700....

What do you think?

Neutral is a bit of a myth in a jet boat. It uses the reverse bucket to simulate neutral by covering half of the nozzle. No bucket........ no neutral. I don't think I would feel comfortable with no way to stop or slow the boat down. As for the radio, depending on the cutout in the dash they are super simple. Just follow the wiring diagram that comes with the radio.

Question 1 answered... ooh ok, so no going out today with my boat... sucks!

OK, I will look in the diagram and see how to throw a radio up in there.....

Thanks

Several ways to go.

You could buy one of those Box's that hang under the Dash. Suppose to keep
an Auto type stereo dry. I think it comes with a flip face cover.
I personally don't want to seal up My unit in a closed space like that, Heat is a
Killer! I've seen Units mounted thru the side of the Helm or Dash Pod with a
Flip face cover. And again these are auto type head units with a CD slot or
Player. Thats great when Your sitting still but don't forget to remove the Disk
or Your going to ruin the EYE and or the disk. I run My boat flat out most of
the time and it hits the water hard. Anything that I mount to My boat has to be
Shock proof. Thats My opinion. I worked 10 years in the car stereo Biz.
I an going with a JBL MBB319 Black Box System. It has a Hard drive in it but
I wont be using that. Flash drives and MP3s are the way to go. No moving
Parts. This unit has no AMP so I have My choice of crossover and amp config.
I hope I've shed some light on stereos.:bigear:

you did good, one more important question..

Since my boat doesnt have an alternator, how does the battery keep from dying? Imagine I throw in a amp and stuff for my radio??

Magneto.

On the front of Your motor, that big part is a flywheel cover. There are magnets in the flywheel and a stationary coil. Magnets pass coil and You have ac Power. Next run that thru a rectifier and You get dc power. a little over 14 volts.
I'm using a Battery switch with two batteries. One for Music and One to start the Boat.

cool great idea, so I could install a battery for just the radio..

The 97 bucket lever complete assembly came in already, unbelievable its made of plastic, the one I have on my boat is steel?

Wow, is that the way it should be?

The jetski had plastic for several years, I used headphones for awhile on my ski and mp3 so no chance for skipping, things get lost in the chop, I saw a jensen with 2g of memory stick that you can load from thumbdrive - that is on my xmas list already.

I added a radio to my Sportster and used this:

I put the main unit behind the dashboard guages and the display on the port side where the passenger could get to it. Also put a remote above the cup holder for me. Front speakers are a good idea too.

Head unit on the left, remote behind the steering wheel on the right:

I just had several made from aluminum for my 95 Speedster. I found the plastic one did not open the bucket far enough, and caused cavitation. If the plastic one doesn't work out for you, let me know and I'll sell you one of the aluminum ones.
