Question about reverse gate on a 97 gti

How do you get the gate to go in reverse, once it goes in forward it locks in with a stainess clip in the rear of the gate' my question how does that little latch release to allow gate to come down in reverse position ,can i take that little latch out i mean does it have to be there because the gate works fine untill it locks in and i cant get it to release unless i physically move the latch i dont get it1 can someone tell me if theres something missing or what thanks alan.

Where the cable is attached to the revers bucket... it should be hooked to a bell-crank. When you push it into reverse, the bell-crank has a tab that lifts the lock. SO... it sounds like your bell-crank is broke.

What "stainless Clip"? Its a pull handle. Pull 1/2 way diverts the JP thrust downward, full out diverts it toward front.

Hey Bill im reffering to the metal lock tab in rear under the reverse gate when it goes forward this lock holds gate in position but when you go to put in reverse this lock clip as i call it wont release to let the gate go in reverse tony was saying i might have something broken but it likes everything is there its really confusing though does it mater if it locks in position anyway?

Thanks Tony, do you know how much that would cost? Also do i really have to have it it seems like it would stay in forward position anyways without it locking what do you think? Alan
