Problems Reviving GSX Limited

I just inherited a SeeDoo. A 1998 GSX Limited. Never owned a PWC before.

I am having a problem getting it to run AND I ended up with water in the crank case and cylinders today.
So, if you can bear with the monologue, I know the bike sat for at least two years. The outside is sun baked but the motor looks really clean.
I drained out as much of the crappy brwon fuel as I could, poured in a couple gallons of fresh, drained that and poured in 4 more gallons of fresh.
It cranked up right away but then began to quit.
I was only able to get the rear cylinder to run and only by chokingit with my hand over the carb.
I finally got it to run on its own (not sure if it was both cylinders). I kept it running for a while but then it quit as soon as I gave it some gas.
I was distracted for about 15 minutes and went back to start it and found it hydrolocked. I took out the plugs and spun it and found there was water in both cylinders and in the crank. It took forever to get it all out.
I got it to run again but not on its own.

So, why did it hydrolock? Could it be because I left the flush system on for about 10 minutes while the engine was not running?

I checked compression. It is 90lbs in each cylinder.

Other Issues:
Start button does not work if I press it all the way in. Must only push it like 1/2 way.
Fuel selector (off, on, reserve) seems a little funcky. Could that be the fuel problem?

I know this is a lot. All help will be appreciated.

Hose on for 10 minutes without running will def. hydrolock it.
(Run engine, turn on water, turn off water, turn off engine).

Fuel selector gummed up will/can cause bad fuel issues. Try it on reserve to see if it runs better.

comp. is low if your reading is accurate

good luck

You can't run the hose if the engine isn't running. :(

If you want any hope of that engine running... you need to get the water out of it, and started to get the insides re oiled !!!

Pull the plugs, and crank it until it's dry. But, since you are a noob... on the mag cover of the engine... you will see an orange bracket, with 2 metal tabs. Plug the spark wires onto that while you crank, otherwise, you may kill the coil. Second... only crank it for about 10 seconds at a shot, otherwise you will over heat the starter.

Once you get most of the water out... spray a little fogging oil into the open spark plug holes. Then, put in your plugs, put a little fuel down the carbs, and get it to start. It doesn't have to keep running... but you need to get that water out.

Once that's done, you will need to clean out the fuel system, and rebuild the carbs.

Good luck

Thanks Guys. I reflected on it last night and it seems pretty obvious. Water probably backed up theough the exhaust into the cylinder.

Have had boats. Never a PWC or even a boat with an outboard or outdrives so never had to flush the system like that.

If you have any more advice left, I am just wondering if it is worth rebuilding the carbs and fixing whatever is the cause of the compression loss. It is a 98 GSX Ltd.

Sounds like you have the grey fuel lines, and clogged carbs and fuel selector switch, so i would replace and clean all those components. How many hours are on the ski?

With the 2stroke family any air leak in the fuel system is as bad as fuel leaking out, take off the selector and clean it maybe new oring seals - if not comfy with that get a new one for about 25bux, replace fuel lines if grey or appears soft where the clamping rings holds it to the fitting/s, clean out the water/filter bowl and a dab of grease on that seal so it does not skid out and make a new air leak causing the erattic motor speed. Mark the oil tank to be sure it is drinking and use weedeater gas in 5 gallon sizes until you verify the oil is going into the motor normally or you will be doing all of this plus a new engine soon.

Thanks guys. Not sure how many hours are on it. Is there an hour meter on the motor?

Will follow the advice. Before I get there and have trouble finding it, where is the fuel/water sperator?

One more thing. A buddy who has had several PWC says that the 90lbs compression is not a horrible thing. Not optimal but with a hotter plug should be OK and not worth getting into the motor. What is your opinion(s)?

90 is weak, should be upwards of 150. wsm top end kit is cheap. and change the lil filters in the carbs during carb rebuild. change the grey lines out as fast as possible. clean the tank with a rag and an air hose. acts kinda like a mop when it blows around in there. (make sure to get the rag outta the tank after!)lol. voodoo got it right, make sure she is oiling properly too when you get er going, but 90 will at least get you started and help you find the original issue. SOUNDS LIKE YOU GOTTA PROJECT MAN!!

Alright. Got a project. Hope I can get it going for the weekend!

Thanks to everyone. I never realized how helpful these type of forums can be.
