Problems no Power on 04 Sportster LE

First i like to say hello to all!

I just bought a 04 Speedster LE,

The last owner had a mechanic working on it because it has not enough power (goes only 15MLS/H).

He changed the coils and some of the wirers to the Box I this are the coils.

The work was not so fine the coils wasn’t screwed in the box only laying inside and the box was open the wirers goes out of the top not the bottom.

So I fixed all this things and made it like it have to be. I was thinking it was ok because I got the boat real cheap (may be not )-: ) .

So after this yesterday it was great weather and I hope to have my first ride!

I took the boat out for my ride, the boat goes not faster as 15MLS in it come not in plane mode.

So I go back to the Trailer and stopp at this.

I changed the spark plugs but not difference!

I am a mechanic on Porsche race motors for the Porsche company like more then 15 years, so I want to repair it my self!

So here are my questions !

What is the most problem on this boats ?

Is there any tool to get for read the diagnosis ?

Is somebody from here real good on this boats that lives in FL ?

I open for all help!

1st, how much RPM do you get at full throttle?
2nd, Might only need a carburator cleaning.

If it revs really hard and doesn't go, check for impeller and wear ring damage

if it doesn't rev, I'd rebuild the whole carburator and clean it correctly.

Hello thanks first for help!

So RPM goes max 5000 1/min!!

If Impeller will dead it must run high rev but the boat does not go fast like the power does not come in the water.

Also it is a DI no Crab!!!!

So i think the engine has no Power or is in limp mode.

That was the reason why i was asking if there is a way to red fault codes.

Today i phoned they seller and he said that the mechanic also checked the compression and it seems to be good he can’t tell what it was.

In this moment i am back in Germany and i will be at the boat back on the 05.03.10 and i only will have 2 Days to figure out what’s wrong.

So i am open for all help!

your gonna have to wait, til some of the higher power techs, stumble on this thread. They know about the DI engines.

you should have mentionned it's a DI.

Looks more a Fuel injection problem to me. If the engine runs good until 5000 rpm, i really don't think it's a spark plug/coil or ignition problem.

But can somebody help me to find out what is wrong?

How can i read codes from the ECU and what are the most Problems on this DIs ?

Is ther a limp Mode wich does only give 5000 rpm ?

yeah, theres a limp mode, not sure on rpms though. Need to take to dealership and have them read the codes.
