I want to get into some water sports so I'm probably going to buy a used 99 gsx rfi, I have a few questions I have never owned a boat, ski anything, know nothing about water craft are these things complicated, I can do anything to a car just for info, and this ski I'm looking at ran good in fall and owner winterized and now he's selling, what would I need to do to get it in the water, ski has 200 hours on it, just wondering remember know nothing about skis. Thanks for any info.

walk away....find a carbed motor. Once there's problems with the rfi or DI, your chasing your tail.

FI is no good on skis, thats weird, I thought that would be a plus, but as said I know nothing about skis, but do have Fi cars, 4 wheelers and love em.

The newer FI skis are fine. The early ones can have issues, and they get expensive to fix. Remember, you are looking at an 11 year old ski, and unlike cars and street motorcycles... Ski's get abused. Full throttle most of the time, they get wet, and they don't always get maintained.

I agree with SeaDooya... stay away from the early FI ski's.... or more to the point... the FI 2-strokes.

I'm not saying carbs are perfect... but they can be cleaned, and new pump diaphragms installed cheap and easy.
