Priming fuel system with vacuum?

I just finished full rebuild of my fuel system and am going to prime it on my new 98 GTX. Is it ok to pull vacuum with my Mitivac hand pump connected to the return fitting on the carbs to pull gas through the system. I wasn't sure if applying vacuum to them was ok and will not hurt the diaphragms inside of the carbs.

It fine but easier to just put your finger over the return hose and blow into the fuel tank check valve.

First I pressure up "from" the carb feed hose to the fuel tank by clamping the "on" and "res" fuel lines right near the fuel tank baffle. I block them off one at a time the pressure the system to "8psi" and turn the fuel valve. I make sure each line holds pressure and releases when I switch the fuel valve. Then I pull a vacuum on the carb feed line and get fuel to the carb. Personally, I wouldn't pull a vacuum through the carbs not that it will hurt anything. I like the carbs do what carbs to to get the fuel moving. Just my perspective. Good Luck

I ended up removing the return line from the carbs and connected a bike tire pump to the return line to pressure up the tank. Took a few pumps and it pushed the gas right through the system. After cranking it for bit it still would not start, I checked the plugs and they were soaked so I had good gas flow. Then I remembered I disconnected the plug in the front of the engine for the pickup when I changed the oil lines. Once I plugged it back in it fired right up and idled at 3000 rpm.
