I am at a dead end here. I have just put a nnew battery in, when I have the plugs in this thing wont crank. If I pull the plugs out the engine will turn over. What can be causing this issue. I can turn it by hand with the plugs out, plugs in it is very herd to turn by hand, but I can get it to turn though. I'm an intermediate with mechanics, so I need someone with a little more brain power for this one.

Thanks in advance for you advice.

I have a video I can attach if it will help anyone.

Is the starter relay the box with the two red and two black wires comming out of it???

Is there anything else that may be causing it??

Yep the rear electrical box. If your engine is flooded with water or fuel and oil it won't compress fluid.

how long was it sitting and was it fogged before sitting? you may have devopled rust inside the jugs and cousing it to be hard to turn. if so get ready to do a top end. take out your plugs and look into the holes and see if you can see rust inside. if not its prob a bad starter.

Ill have a look and post back, It has been sitting all winter. How can I purge all the fluids and start with fresh fluids. I'd like to remove all of the oil and start with fresh oil and fuel. That could be some of the issues. Also....what the heck is fogged??? I'm not familiar with that term.

Thanks for your input.

I presume when you cranked it without the plugs, nothing came out of the plug holes.

Rebuild or replace your starter.

That is correct. I removed the starter and pulled it apart. Definately could use a little rebuild. I have taken it totally apart, and am working over the parts to gt them in a good working order. May have to buy a new starter. Would a bad starter still crank it over with nothing in the plug holes?

yes...if its making bad contact between brushes and the armature its possible. Also make sure your ground wire isnt rotted.

You could have a bad winding in the armature and will get to that spot and not want to turn. I would buy a cheap rebuilt starter. Nothing is worse that to get way out and hit the button and hear the engine drag.

There is a company on ebay that sells seadoo starters rebuilt for 53 dollars. I have used them and had no problems or complaints.

Clean the battery posts with a wire brush until shiney. Also give the wires a good cleaning to make good contact with the battery. I had the same thing happen on both my ski's with brand new batteries. Even though the battery is new the post will oxidize sitting around in a store/warehouse.

:agree:...and some diaeltric grease wouldn't hurt...I put that chit on every electrical connecter I can find....

I really appreciate all of your comments. I was able to get it started up. I think that by following the cranking advise with the plugs out, and working out the kinks of sitting all winter, it loosened up, and was able to fire up. So I was able to get it to fire up and run for a little bit, but not in any water. Now comes the task of being able to start it in the water. That was the issue last year. Fires up fine on land, but place it in the water, and poop...it just doesnt want to start. Any ideas on that part??

Do a compression test if it don't start in the water I always start my ski on the trailer for a few seconds before putting in the water when I'm at the ramp it could be a fuel problem also

I highly recommend NOT buying the cheap chinese stuff. I have seen some pictures of the metal breaking apart on the bendix and chewing up stators.

You are better off buying a used OEM or having your OEM rebuilt.

Kozer...I would pull the starter and have it rebuilt. Sounds like its on its last leg and rusty inside.
