Hi everyone,

I purchased a Seadoo GTX Bombardier limited 951 model year 1999. My son and I took it out and went very well, but then after 15 minutes 12v low started flashing. I changed the battery and the issue still remained, where you would be going along and when you increased speed it would cut out and again the low 12v would be on the dash. I have now changed the fuses in the mpem and one in the electrical box, again still the same message. With engine off battery reads 12.48, then with engine running reads 12.38, so there is no charge going into the battery to make it stable. I have taken the mpem out and is like to test it, but I'm not sure how I do it? Ideally I need to test it before I purchase a new one as there very expensive. Is there a way to test them? Also if I can test it and it's fine, what do I do next? Thanking you in advanced

First of all... stop spending money. Find the problem. I'm not a guru but look at the rectifier. Download an repair manual and do some tests. I am not sure what the battery voltage should be at 4k RPM but it should be well above what you are reading. I'd reckon close to 14 volts. You could have a problem with the stator that charges the system.

Ok thank you, apparently there isn't a rectifier on this seadoo it's built into the mpem. I have seen all.the manuals online and non of them tell you how to trouble shoot

The magneto is most likely bad. you can test in the hull if you can reach the connector.
you'll need to pull the engine on that particular ski to replace it.
it's in the service manual how to test. I've replaced them, they are under the front cover. and on the GTX, you'll be removing the pipe and most likely engine to reach it, or at least suspending it from above and removing the front mount. I've done this a few times.

Hi thanks for your message, Yes I have found the magneto, it's in the electrical box at the back of the ski apparently. I have download the repair manual so I'm hoping to find the solution, do you know if you can test a mpem?

Also the mpem is reading everything else, for example the fuel gauge, whether the ski is going north, east, south or west. The speedometer isn't working, and I keep getting the low 12v message. If the mpem is reading everything else surely it is working properly? But the magneto has gone...

Also as - getting back to the basics.... Check your cables - they can decay and corrode quickly on these. I put new cables on mine, in which after I did it I cut one in half and saw inside it was solid green. - just an FYI.
