Piston Wrist Bearing Movement

During trial fitting of wrist pin and bearings in my new pistons there is about 1 -2 mm of later movement of the bearing on the wrist pin between the inside of the piston. Is this normal ?

Yes and no.

Yes... they do float a little... but with the OEM needles, there are thrust washers on each side.

You may want to contact the manufacture of that piston, and ask if you are supposed to have thrust washers in it.

I just put a piston in one of my ski's, the engine was a rebuild from SBT a few years back.. When I got the new pats it was just like yours, so was what I took out..So using that logic I put it back together and it runs fine so far! You might want to call like Doc said.. Just my 2 cents..

Thanks guys, its normal, I called perf parts and they answered that and which ring should be on top for me

I have a set of wiesco's in the shop right now. They fit the same way. It seems horribly wrong. Keeping the rod centered & sliding the bearing to one side, there is so much side movement it exposes the needle bearings some. That seems crazy.

EDIT: Scratch that, I had a brain fart & checked the bearing in an oem piston. In the wiesco & WSM they have less clearance in the center of the casting, so the bearing stays centered, & no need for the thrust washers. Sorry..... All is good.
