Pick up ass'y bracket

On my 96 GSX, the pick up ass'y bracket broke and now I don't have spark. The component itself works fine and tested within spec with a ohmn meter (248). I would like to just change the bracket if possible, does any one know if anyone makes or sells these brackets without the whole ass'Y?

If I can avoid spending the $80-$100 on a whole new ass'y for just a broken bracket, that would be great.

This is a common problem with the older 787's, try PM'ing minnetonka4me or 99spxxx, and see if they have one from a later model.

what does the one from the later models look like? i'd be interested in seeing the difference between the two.

stupid question - I'm not familiar with that bracket. I have e 96 GSX too, so for future reference, where is it located?

under the stator cover, its the pickup for the ignition, so when it comes off, you get no fire.

If you loose spark and know the coil in the rear ebox is good but dont have 12v going to the white wire on the bottom of the coil when turning the engine over with the starter, test the resistance between the yl/wh and bl/yl wires on the mag housing plug. It should be between 190 and 300 ohmns. If your reading is within spec chances are the bracket broke and the "pick up" is just dangling in the mag housing. This is what happen to me.

This is what it looks like.

kicker when i've tried to unplug that plug to get it out of the way before, the plug in the mag housing has pulled out instead of unplugging, so i guess if i lose spark and i can pull the pickup out along with the plug i know what's gone wrong!

Ya if the pick up comes out with the grey plug that would be a sure bet there is a problem there. Chances are though that it wont unless the wires from the magneto are off as well. The 3 yellow magneto wires are shorter then the pick up wires so that would have to come through the hole first. It does not show well in the picture but the pick up wires are about 5" long.

If your able to pull the both ends (male and female) out of the mag housing it is most likely the grey plug attached to the housing that has a tab that is broken off or it has come out of the slot that it sits in.
