Padding the rope door.

I have seen this video on YouTube on the same boat I have. I noticed when watching it, they covered the rope door with a padding. I like that idea, and would like input how you think they did it, so I can do it to mine.

How would you get at the latch?

Maybe has a magnetic cabinet latch or velcro to keep it shut?
