Outfitting and Cleaning a Speedster SK

I picked up a great deal on a 1999 Speedster SK (Yellow) this past weekend. Already cleaned several years of mildew/dirt from the boat and it looks practically brand new. I know we are at the end of the boating season but I have a few weekends left here in GA and we have a trip to the beach in Oct that will give me the chance to use it once again before winterizing it. A few questions for the experts:

1) Outfitting it with the essientials, where is the best place to buy online?
I need everything from Lifejackets, anchor, bumpers, signal kit, VHF radio and rope.

2) I'd like to add a stereo and speakers this winter. Any reviews from current users of marine stereos? I know the SK is already wired, found that when I was cleaning underneath the cooler. But where do the speaker wires terminate?

3) What is the best wax/polish to keep it looking shiny? The gelcoat is faded and needs to be brought back to life.

Overton's ran a 20% off $300+ last year, and they should have that coming up again soon I would imagine. That's where i got all of my stuff.
 
It all depends on how bad it is oxidized if very bad you can buff and make it shine but only wetsanding will bring back that factory finish.

Do yourself a favor and use 3m products or equals.

Honestly the easiest way is to pay someone else to do it...... :hurray: lol

Audio wise, its all in what you want to spend/ can afford if going all out then you will not use any of the factory wiring.

Stay tuned in and I will be showing pics of every step of the way on the exact same boat, The post will be flooded with pic's of each install, I will be installing the speakers amp and head unit by next weekend, I will have pictures of each step from the placement of each speaker, amp and head unit to cutting the holes for them with the proper tools, to running the wiring to 2nd battery and dual batt switch, voltmeter change out factory switches to all blue carling led ones and so on!

Picked up some 3M products from West marine yesterday. Oxidation is not bad, but will take some buffing to get it back to new. Thanks for the help!
 
I use the heavy duty rubbing compound with a professional buffer for very bad oxidation, they also have a product that is rubbing compound with wax in it that works great as well.

The best way is to buff with a professional hi speed buffer first with compound next buff with wax then follow with a hand wax,

The process I usually use is

Hi speed buff 3m heavy duty rubbing compound

wash boat

Hi speed wax with a very good hi gloss marine wax

Hand wax with a marine carnuba ax or starbright with ptef, then follow with a 2nd hand wax again
 
Most important is try not to go cheap, if you do or short cut it causes more work in the end, follow with a hand wax at least 2 times per year/season, to be honest with you my boats get a hand wax after every other use, they get washed as soon as they come home from the water and flushed, make sure to use a marine boat wash that has no degreaser in it, you do not want to strip the wax off the vessel. Some soaps do, I see people using Dawn all the time on them, sure it cleans good but it also removes all wax.

Next make sure to only use marine waxes on it, the reason is because the gelocoat/fiberglass must be able to breath, some automotive waxes will actually not allow the boat to breath.

If you live up north make sure to wax before youstore it and then go ahead and wax again as soon as you bring it back out for use.
