Have a beat to hell 657x in a beat to hell 94 XP. Was going to "upgrade" to a 720 and have it "rebuilt". Now I find I'd gain a crappy 5 HP. I could go without food for a week and get the same net gain and at less cost. Thinking of having the 650x rebuilt instead, saving myself the core cost, carbs, etc, etc. Looking for reputable, competent rebuilder. I live in MA. Don't really care about shipping costs, I'll still save a ton of dough. Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Don't know if a 720 is a bolt on upgrade from a 657. If so then bore out the 720 to the max. you'll probably gain more than 5HP.
