OPAS removal

I am getting ready to remove my opas system. I looked in the repair manual, and in the boat. It doesnt appear to be that complicated. Does anyone with experience with this want to shed some light on this with me before I begin. I am ordering my blockoff plates tonight.

After looking some more, I guess my real question in what to do with the water supply lines coming from the pump to the side veins?





Maybe in the block off kit there are plugs or something to handle this

I can't really help answer how to do it, but my question is 'why' are you removing your OPAS? Does it interfere with performance?

Performance is why I am doing it..... I just got the R&D kit today, and it came with the plugs and caps needed to block off the water side of the system......

honestly, I looked into doing the same thing on the Riva stage II kit but desided in the end that I didn't need to remove them.

I'm not looking to race for money so after careful thought I decided that the little drag that it may add, was not worth the risk of removing them on my GTX's

Riva only say in the ads FOR RACING ONLY is for legal reasons, It keep the cost of the parts down cause there are less regulation. O.P.A.S are training wheels for pwc's. It stands for off. power. assit. steering. With The riva or R&D pro blockoffs you will get way better hook-up and handling and one less thing you have to worrie about springing a leak and sinking your ski. its not always about going faster some mods will just plan improve your ski...

Hey all

Just got in from the lake today, after my OPAS removal. WOW what a difference it makes for maneuverability. On the water 100% around the dock just takes some practice. I recommend this mod for almost everyone

Does removing the OPAS really make that much of a difference? I am kicking around the idea however i am not sure yet.

I think it'll definitely make a difference in your maneuverability around the dock in a negative way. Not sure what it does out on the water, but I personally think BRP designed them for good reason.

Yea you are probably right. I will have to do a little more research on the pros and cons of removing the OPAS before i tackle that project.

opas is just something that can mess up and break and seadoo is the only pwc that has them, i one breaks it can affect the handling in a bad way so in my IMO id remove them. my boat doesnt have opas and i have no problem docking. I dont think youll regret removing them.

I have a 2007 GTX/Limited. I;ve had some issues off and on with the OPAS, screen clogged,etc. I thought i would test it out with having the paddles held in the up position( made a PVC insert and inserted on the shaft). while making a hard turn, it seemed to me that i had to hit the throttle harder to turn it. i wasnt going slow, but had to hit it to turn. not sure if i like it or not, however the drag on the ski made be a good trade off to leave them up.

I would use the pro system if you intend on going over 74,going that fast with just the regular block off plate will cause porpoising and will not handle well at high speeds

i had gotten mine with one side broken off and it pulls very hard to one side so i removed the other side too and im thinking of doing the block off plates because i think the OPAS is junk they break way to easyily and effect the handeling alot when they arent in spec. And im gettting water leaking in aswell so i am almost ready to just order them!
