Went for a test and tune. Was runnin WOT the engine just shut down, started back up with no problems, so I loaded it back up and went on another boat. I forgot to run engines out of water, so i started them up and didnt sound right. Lifted the hatch and found exploded exhaust hose and exhaust got so hot it changed the color on it.I jiggled the hose and it came off at the other end, somehow gotten loose. How would this hose just split like this. I got NO alarms or anything.
Ran a compression check and its still 155/155, so didnt seem to hurt it at all.
Ideas?

You probably lost water to the exhaust. On your waterbox... there should be a regulator. Check it out.

The waterbox??..the black funky shaped thing tucked in the hull??..or the resonator thing I painted red?.
I do remember seeing water flow thru the new clear lines I installed.

you wont get an alarm. The sensor is at the top of the motor. The split was at the end of the exhaust/cooling....It split cuz its warn out/brittle from time.

I got one from an 97spx if interested.

Thanx Seadooya, but something caused an excessive amount of force to split that hose like that..hoses just dont expand and split like that, something caused it??..lot of pressure build up to do that..
Not sure your hose will fit, mines a U shaped one..

didnt see it was from a speedster. Those are some "hard" turns, and being a 98/99...i'd say, not bad for it to last 10+ years. Exhaust heat, water heat..etc, plus being 10+yrs, all, i say, played a role on her.

I'd thionk, if something "blocked" the exhaust, then it would be blocked at the exit, to break the tube where it did.

Thats kinda what I think, some kind of block to do that, weird..Thanks for your input though!...think I will just duct tape it up for now and go run it and try and diagnose from there.

Your waterbox is that red muffler just after the tuned pipe in the picture above. The water regulator is the black part screwed into it, with the 2 clear hoses on it.

Make sure that is working. If it isn't... then your exhaust can get overly hot.

The small hoses that attach to the water regulator are on backwards. Water into the regulator should be attached to the bottom port.....it is on the top port. The regulator supplies cooling water to the lower exhaust system ... it didn't and the lower exhaust overheated causing the big hose to split and the lower pipe to change color. You didn't get a overheat alarm because the engine didn't overheat...only the exhaust did. Be sure to check the short hose between the pipe and water box for damage also.

hmmm...I swear they are on how they came off??...Thats how it is on the other engine. Anyone else agree?..Hope its that simple Dennis!

Thanks Dennis, you were right, I had them on reversed. I love this forum :)..Somebody always has an answer for any problems!
Somehow this post got put in 4 tec instead of 2 stroke..
