Well I'll tell you the cheap ass that I am, when I bought the XP I just restored it had been sitting for 2 years with a full tank, it smelled so bad when I opened it, you know what I did? Yep sucked it all out and poured it in one of my company's service vans!! It burned it just fine, not sure what the injectors look like but I put it in an older one that has well over 120k on the clock so whatever!!! I don't waste shit!

Yeah, I don't see why we HAVE TO MIX IT RIGHT NOW when IT'S TOTALLY UNNECESSARY.

Maybe you guys don't, but I want fresh fuel in my 2-strokes. For me, it's NOT THAT DIFFICULT to PLAN AHEAD.

So, I should just shit can 30 to 40 gallons of pre-mix at the end of every season? That's over 2 hundos in gas and oil, not happening. Some people will say that you should dump gas after 30 days, how long should you leave pre mix for then?

I'm just sayin' it's NOT THAT DIFFICULT to plan ahead, not my fault you've got 40 gallons of questionably stale crap to burn through your 2-stroke first thing in spring, nor is it a problem FOR ME. :)

Exactly, I hate wasting stuff too, and I've pumped hundreds of gallons, I have a series of 55 gallon drums I dump old stale skunky fuel in and keep dumping in my car 5 gallons at a time to get rid of it, on top of 15 gallons each time. No, I didn't charge a waste disposal fee, but the boats that came in with that garbage fuel didn't leave here choking on the stuff, either, they left with fresh ethanol-free fuel instead.

Boats are a lot different than cars, a boat engine screams across the lake at 4500RPM and it needs good fuel. I can burn that stuff mixed in with fresh in my car or shop van that just loafs along at 2000RPM. Why leave that stuff in a $10k mercruiser and roast a piston, no thanks.

I think tonka posted up the impact that bad gas had on his truck over time, I think it made him question doing that again.

As I stated earlier,IMO its takes very little advanced planning to run a tank down to 10/20% of full, either at the end of a weekend or the end of a season. If you end up with a 3/4 tank I expect its because weather surprised you and killed the last weekend or a mechanical failure ended your season early.

I do NOT reuse that 2 yr old stanky gas that comes out of junk ski's I purchase in my truck. I don't need $20 that bad.

But as far as premix is concerned, letting it sit for 60 days IMO is nothing.... add a little fresh on the top and have a great day. But again, even if I plan poorly, I'm at best going to have 1/3 of a tank sitting, and since I'm in Florida, my only excuse for gas sitting more than 4 weeks is laziness/injury. This is different in the North.

I always use 91 or better octane. I have had many years where I have had full or nearly full tanks of gas sit all through the winter months. I do put Stabil in the last few rides. I have never had an issue or what I would call bad gas at the beginning of the next season.

I hear you! I don't have much experience with "bad gas" like the stuff that came out of the xp but it seemed to run in that service van, however I don't drive that van my employees do so how well it ran I don't know. I also am not hurting for 20 bucks however I don't like waste either!
I think I was more trying to get rid of it than anything, would I do it again, most likely as long as it's going in a vehicle that's days are numbered, what else can you do with it?

I won't go on record as to what I really do with just a single gallon of stanky stuff.

The last time I had 8 gallons of crap in a speedster, I siphoned it into two 5 gallon cans and took it 15 minutes down to the city marina that has a tank where we can dump it in for free.

Auto parts stores also take old oil (I think its a requirement that they do) so when I cleaned out the GSX I had last month, I mixed the gas and the oil together (about 3 gallons total) and took it to autozone and dumped it in their oil return tank, if they noticed that it was mixed they didn't say anything.

generally speaking, most cities have a setup somewhere to accept old oil/gas, since they are fully aware of what 99% of people will do with it if they don't have some kind of setup. You just need to ask.

ps.. its also good for starting bonfires, or killing off a tree/bush that you don't want anymore.

I'm only a couple hours away, let's go

Hey! lets get back on topic.

Glad y'all like the bike. Looks like I need to set up the perimeter of claymores around it. It runs good, sounds and looks great and them 102 CI really makes it scoot along.

It is actually SeaDoo-related, will put more info in my 96 XP cleanup thread (once I start it).

It's all about the toys buddy! You know I have trouble staying on topic anyway, besides I love bikes.

Going to start my seadoo storage system this weekend

I'll say it again, it's a sweet lookin' scooter! :)

As far as bad gas goes, you guys do whatever. It's something we'll all have do deal with at some point in time one way or another. 2-strokes are particularly vulnerable to skanky fuel, 4-strokes not quite so, depending on the circumstances.

I have to agree with the spirit of this. And agree not every vehicle can burn questionable fuel, most newer fuel injected vehicles shouldn't/can't.

When I moved from California about 10 years ago, I was cleaning up my house, and I had 3 five-gallon red plastic jerry cans full of really nasty skanky gas I had accumulated over a couple years. I called up the county about a week before moving to ask them where I could take it, and they said I had to make an appointment, and they were booked for 3 weeks out. I told them I had no choice but to dump it into the sewer, and they said "whatever". Then I had a better idea. I drove a couple miles away to a development, in the middle of the day, where they had about a dozen different landscaping companies working. I simply took the cans, set them on the sidewalk, and drove away. Came back about 5 minutes later just for grins, and sure enough, someone "stole" those cans in that short time. I don't know what that person did with the gas, but it wasn't my problem anymore.

Good one lol, I knew you weren't gonna dump it in the sewer! :) If there's a junkyard around they might take it b/c they have to remove all the fluids from cars anyway, before putting them into the U-Pull-It yard.

Show us a few more pics Rod if you have some, I don't think I can make it by your place this week to have a look or take it for a spin.

I was going to stop messing with David's thread, but seeing how you insist and do not think David will mind to much ... forgive the messy background; I am stirring around lots of junk in prep for a serious house exterior redoo. Only "problem" I have seen with the bike so far is a possible weak battery but this just means I need to go ride it regularly ... is there a "problem" here?

Sportster, just jump in the LearJet and hop on over.

Cool pics, thanks man! David abandoned his thread I think, now he's off harassing others. If you spot the Party Lear flying over and notice it circling, it's probably just me searching for a patch to land while arguing with air traffic control again! :)

Watch out man, the REAL Top Gun fighter base is right next door to him! A Learjet is just fun target practice for them! Bring a ski in case they shoot you down over the ocean.

Me! Abandon my psychotic thread? Never!!
Rod I may be an avid sport biker but I love that ride, really sweet!

I am 12 mi out on a straight-in approach to Palomar airport runway 24, nearest place to land the LearJet. Limos available there.

In the infinite wisdom of the powers that be, years ago during the initial craziness of the BRAC (Base Realignment and Closing) stuff they closed down the awesome Marine Corps Air station El Toro (Orange county). Then, as the craziness continued it was decided to move the Marine Corps operations from El Toro to Naval Air Station Miramar (San Diego) and redesignated it Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Of course to follow the logic of the entire process, most Navy operations were moved away from Miramar inland (like in away from the ocean where the Navy traditionally operates), Top Gun was moved to NAS Fallon (like in Nevada). A logical person cannot make this stuff up, only politicians figure this is logical. History lesson for the day.

Glad you like the bike ... think I will hop on and take a spin around some of the backroads to lunch at one of the several casinos in the area. It has cooled down a bit so maybe will need to put on a jacket or at least a long-sleeved shirt.

careful, they get angry when we brag about being outside in normal clothes during winter.

(i'm actually taking a quick 30 mile ride on my ski around 4pm, but I WILL be wearing my neoprene top, the water Temp is only 69 and I might pass out if that icewater hits me in the chest !)
