oil sensor

1996 gti with a771. Is the oil sensor used for pressure or to check the level in the tank? Is it interlocked with the ignition sys?
 
just checks level in tank. the ignition will still work but you will get a low oil level alarm and warning message.

BTW, your in the boat forum.
