oil pump

when I bought my 96 gts the oil pump had been disconnected. I bought a used oil tank and am in the process of hooking the oil pump and lines up. I read that when the oil pump is deleted the gear must be removed. I took out the two screws that mount the oil pump, but it will not pull out, I am trying to determine if that gear was removed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jerryu

If it won't come out then the gear is still on it.

There is a big nylon gear on the back that is driven by the rotary shaft.



If it has been run a long time that way the oil pump could be bad from running without oil.
