Oil Pressure Sensor / Switch - Does it really fail?

I have read some threads about many fails in these two oil pressure sensors on 4 tec engines.

Does this really occurs often?

Are these two codes the correct part numbers?
420256777 (to the block of the engine) and 420256885 (near to the oil cap)?

One of the thread I´ve read says:

"MANY Sea-Doo 4-TEC & SC 4-TEC engines are effected by bad oil pressure sensors. Sea-Doo does NOT have a good part at this time, and some are not being covered under warranty. Right now the parts are lasting several months before going bad again. The good news is, the part is only $20 and takes just a couple minutes to change.

Symtoms:
The Check Engine light will come on. Power will be decresed. Top RPMs will be down a couple hundred. Out of the hole performance is very lacking, similar to the learning key. Removing and replacing the lanyard will restore performance for a few seconds to a few minutes."

Is that correct?

Thanks

I could be wrong here but if the oil sensor goes you're getting an alarm - you might still be able to run it but
you're not going out for a ride - you're limping back home.

I've just moved up to the 4 tec's and since this is a known issue I keep one of each with me.

Yep, but I read somewhere which on some models, like mine ('04 GTX supercharged) you won't get any error code or limp mode due oil pressure sensor failure... only the warning flashing light... (!!!!) But you get limp mode when water temperature exceeds for example...

I had one go on an 04 non-SC and it sounded the alarm and we basically limped back to shore, replaced
BOTH sensors actually and we were OK after that.

Your part numbers are correct but 420256777 has been replaced to a new part number 420856538.

Back to your question - in my limited experience with 4-tecs (now 4 over 2 years but 2 in the last 6 months...) I had sensors go in 1 - so 1 in 2 or 50%....

But you can't do anything about it as far as I know...other than have one of each waiting. For around $50
you have piece of mind that you can swap them in and be back running in no time.

Yep, I´ve read some threads saying that too, you cant do anything bout it.
But honestly, I would like they would be the reason of this issue... If I change them and solve the issue, I wont mind to change them some times after.

I went to ride a few minutes ago and test it again. Now I got Limp Mode after ride 6500/7000rpm for a while... and a warning text "A-TEMP" plus the buzzer for 10-15 seconds.... wait a while and then engine came to live again...
Would this "A-TEMP" plus the buzzer, plus the limp mode, the correct Symptom of bad oil pressure sensors?

After come back to house and check, no errors were stored in the Ecu!

Riding below 5800rpm I can do all day long, no problem.... Above 6000rpm and you get warning flashing lamp... after you get limp mode and that text I said...

Any ideas?

Thank You!

I'm the original owner of two '05 RXT's.

Never had a prob with the sensors mentioned. That' a 100% oil sensor trouble free.

Something about a pig-tail or piggy-back harness comes to mind...lemme look around.

Found a few things re lower rpms and misc "oil" or "sensor" messages.

Can't say for sure whether the prob related to a ski that old.

Maybe one of those in the know will respond.

I got the CANDOO Scan, maybe would it help me on that?

The problem is to test ride it on the water carrying a laptop!

I believe now that flashing warning light above 6000rpm is for a "too high voltage" issue.

Just waiting for a new rectifier and then will post results,,,,
