Oil Light Question

How low does the oil tank get when the light comes on. I have a 2000 GTI and was out riding Saturday and the oil light came on. It looked to still have about 1.5 to 2 quarts of oil in it. I added another 1/2 quart and it went off. Well about 2hrs later out riding it in some rough water the light came back on. I checked and it still had oil so I rode for another hr or so. After I got it home the next morning I fired it back up and the oil light was off again......My question is when is the light supposed to come on?

Its really low on mine when it comes on so. I can explain to you why it didnt come on the next morning on the trailer because it could have been tilted and all the oil was in the back of the tank.

When you get down below half a tank in my boat and hit choppy water, mine will come on for a minute or so then go off when i hit smooth water.

Freaked me out first time i did that.

Thanks for the info. I was under 2 quarts so that must be the reason. I am going to fill it up so I dont have to worry about it........LOL:cheers:

It never hurts to have it full. Won't suck air, won't turn on light, and peace of mind at all times.

Yea I think that is the best plan so I dont have to worry about it. It holds 1.6 gallons so I guess with 1 1/2 quarts it could easliy turn on the light when riding it hard.
