oil leak

I have a 1997 GTS which is leaking oil from the engine. I have thoroughly cleaned the engine and hull with an automotive engine cleaner and even added a dye to the oil tank to help identify where the oil is coming from. It is not coming from the tank or lines. All tank grommets have been replaced. I have removed the large oil lines, cut off the ends and re installed them. It is not coming from the injection system on the carb.

I can see oil on the black steel cradle which supports the engine but it just serves to collect the oil since it has a curved shape so the oil runs on it into a pool. The engine was replaced a couple of years ago by a dealer who is knowledgeable and did good work.

The leak is happening even when the engine is not running.

Anyone have any further suggestions?

Well........

It could be a case leak... but it's very unlikely. I would be more inclined to think it is leaking out the fittings on the engine case. The fittings are an "NTP" thread... so, if they wen't installed tight enough, or with a sealing adhesive of some kind... they could leak.

WARNING: the stock fittings are thin aluminum, and there is a fine line between being tight, and broken. Don't just reach under and tighten them up. Remove them, clean the threads, put on a paste fuel line sealant, and re-install. Also, DO NOT use Teflon tape on the threads. If some gets into the engine... it could find it's way up to the oil tank, and clog the injection system.
