Oil Inj Cable Connection (at Carb)

Just found out that my cable which runs from my injector pump to the throttle linkages is missing. Luckily the pump went into a full flow mode (plus).

I just ordered a new cable. When I look through the manual it looks like it connects at the carbs using a simple pinch fitting (like is used on the choke cable). What I have available on the PTO carb is a circular pulley (like is used on the throttle cable).

For those of you running a 97 Challenger (787), how is your cable connected to you carb linkages?

If you look under the pto carb you will see a similar round disc that the cable hooks into and the threaded cable end has 2 nuts that adjust the cable so it operates the oil disc as soon as the carbs are open. Check the oil pump for the small mark on the pump. It should move as soon as the carb linkage is operated so it has the correct oil at all rpms. You might need a mirror, where the cable is going to the pump, you should see a small mark on the cable "disk"...where the cable attaches to, it aligns to a small mark on the pump. It should be in sync with the carbs cable movment.

Let me know if you have any other concerns or questions.

You live in Galway...I used to live in Albany and then in Valatie before 1996. Small world.

As Karl said, put the cable on the PTO carb and then attach it to the oil pump. With the throttle at idle, you'll align the two marks on the oil pump. Adjust the position of the oil pump by changing the adjustment on the carb side of the cable. You'll need a mirror to see it and maybe clean the pump off so you can see the marks well.

If you need the cables, shoot me a PM. I just removed both of mine and went to pre-mixing. They're still kicking around somewhere along with the oil pumps

I used to live in Schenect and sailed on Saratoga lake. Even smaller world...

I do most of mt running on Great Sacandaga (this is my Sand Island Shuttle).

Thanks for the offer on cables, but i just ordered a new one.

Quick question on the pump. My cable is missing (though everything else is hooked up) and this is dumping a large amount of oil into the engine (as evidenced by excessive smoke and oil depositis).

The cable pulley on the oil pump rotates freely againts the return spring (both directions). However, what seems odd is that there is no stop anywhere. When you bring the pulley/indicator back to the idle position how much spring force should there be (as you could, I think, continue for another 360 degrees (just with more spring force). So... should this do this? If so, will the number of preload turns make a difference? The sleds I am used to have a fixed range of motion so this seems kind of odd.

Looking at my old pump, they do seem to be able to rotate all the way around, But the sping will fights you as you move outside the range and are holding a position. Remember that the cable from the carb is only used in one direction, the spring works in the other.
