I have 2 1994 seadoo xp's with the 657. I rebuilt one of the carbs last year and today pulled the ski's out for the first time attached the batteries and was going to run them just to make sure they started up. Last year the ski's both began to bog down while riding so i had decided to redo the carbs as they had never been done before and still had grey fuel lines. I redid one of the ski's and that one started up fine and ran just fine, havent actually tried it out on the water but sure did sound better then before. The other ski, the one that hasnt been rebuilt is another story. Pretty much started right up, ran it for about 30-45sec then shut it off. Tried to restart it once again 10 min later but it would just turn over. Took the brand new spark plugs out and noticed they were really wet so figured maybe I flooded the engine out. Let the ski sit all night without the plugs, then today went out replaced the spark plugs, took off the carb arrester and just had carbs open. The ski started up slowly but had to continuously give it a little gas for it to sputter but it would stay on. I noticed that the carb towards the back of the engine was sputtering gas but the front one was not. I let the ski run for about 45 seconds then let it die. when it died it would not start again. I took out the spark plugs and the one to the back was not as wet as the front one. the front one was wet but also had black all around it. Figured maybe a fuel issue, then went to the back of the ski and noticed there was a puddle of oil on the ground from the muffler. I am going to redo the carbs anyways but was unsure of why there was oil from the muffler. Im wondering if maybe i have a clogged line somewhere and only oil was being injected into one of the pistons. Compression to both sides is 125, never had a problem last yr other then the bogging down at the end of the season. Does it sound like my theory is maybe correct on maybe having a clogged fuel line and was only getting oil so then thats why it shot out the muffler??

The 2 problems are unrelated.

You need to clean the carbs on the second ski. No way around that. BUT... the oil is from rotary valve seals that are stating to leak. When they leak... the oil leak is internal of the engine. When they sit, there will be a bunch of oil down in the crankcase, and it will come out, once it starts.

Question... what were the spark plugs wet with? (oil, fuel, water??)

The back plug was wet with fuel, and the front one was a combination of more oil then fuel. No water was involved.

OK... you have a classic rotary valve leak. Just get it to fire with some starter fluid, and the oil will purge out. After that, it won't be a problem until it sits again.
